Phone: 212-226-8645 One of the fun things about eating out at a French restaurant in NYC (besides the fabulous cuisine of some kitchens), is the feeling of being transported away from the hustle and bustle of this city to that of a relaxing/restorative bistro somewhere in Paris. L’une des choses amusantes dans le fait de manger dans un restaurant français à NYC (excepté la fabuleuse gastronomie de certaines cuisines), est le sentiment d’être transporté loin de l’effervescence de la ville pour se retrouver dans un bistro relaxant/restaurant quelque part dans Paris.
Unfortunately, some New York restaurants have lost that ability to make such magic happen. One need not be French to work in a French restaurant, but it can be somewhat of a disappointment when a supposedly French restaurant is "on point" with a French-influenced decor and menu, yet no one among the wait staff speaks a word of French.
Malheureusement, quelques restaurants New Yorkais ont perdu la capacité à créer cette magie. Il n’est pas obligatoire d’être français pour travailler dans un restaurant français, mais il y a une certaine déception quand un supposé restaurant français avec en plus un décor et un menu français, a une équipe dont les membres ne parlent pas un mot de français.
What is a disappointment too is when the essence or spirit of a particular culture is not embraced.
Ce qui est décevant aussi, c’est lorsque l’esprit ou l’essence même d’une culture n’est pas adopté. |

Recently I was at a party which was just as diverse as New York City itself. The revelers were comprised of the most liberal to most conservative; the agnostic to the religious; men and women; gay and straight. The host. a friend of mine, is in Eden during these types of soirees. As he puts it; "The energy level is just electric!" Well, that's quite true, and at times these gatherings have come to resemble more of a reality show especially when fists nearly fly. I guess our host only views these altercations as lightening striking! Now that round one was completed, (the discussion of Obama, Hillary and John), it was now time for round two: The discussion of Gay Marriage... Je suis allé récemment à une soirée qui était aussi diverse que peut l’être la ville de New York. Du plus libéral au plus conservateur, de l’athée au religieux, hommes et femmes, hétérosexuels et homosexuels, tout le monde était présent. L’hôte, un de mes amis, est au paradis pendant ce genre de soirée. Comme il le dit si bien : « l’énergie est juste électrique ! ». C’est quasiment vrai, et parfois ces réunions ressemblent plus a des émissions de téléréalités, surtout quand on arrive presque aux poings. J’imagine que notre hôte voit ces altercations comme des petites animations ! Maintenant que le premier round fut terminé (le débat sur Obama, Hillary et John), c’est au tour du deuxième round : le débat sur le mariage Gay. |
